This past week, California based SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute announced they were placing their search for alien life on hold. Since 2007, their Allen Telescope Array (ATA) has been scanning the universe in search for some kind of signal or evidence of intelligent life forms beyond our measly little planet.
SETI is a non-profit organization whose mission statement reads:
The mission of the SETI Institute is to explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe.
We believe we are conducting the most profound search in human history — to know our beginnings and our place among the stars.
In the past, SETI has been able to tap into a number of wealthy donors, such as Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen who donated $30M for the construction of the Allen Telescope Array. It has been reported that it costs SETI approximately $2.5M a year to operate the ATA with $1M of that going to just the processing of all of the data collected.
In an email sent out to their donors, SETI Institute CEO Tom Pierson said the ATA had been placed into hibernation due to funding shortfalls for operations of the Hat Creek Radio Observatory where the ATA is located.
SETI’s senior astronomer, Seth Shostak said: There’s plenty of cosmic real estate that looks promising,… He went on to say: we’ve lost the instrument that’s best for zeroing in on these better targets.
Even with today’s economic crisis, I will not be surprised to read that SETI received the necessary donations to keep the Allen Telescope Array operating. Once again they will turn their attention skyward in search for our origins.
Millions of dollars and numerous brilliant minds all dedicated to know our beginnings and our place among the stars. And to think for less than $100 they could purchase a 1599 Geneva Bible, a copy of Gary Bates’ book Alien Intrusion UFOs and the Evolution Connection and watch his Aliens UFO’s And The Bible DVD.
With these tools SETI would know everything they need to know about our origins and place among the stars. They would learn that God created the earth for mankind and ultimately for His pleasure or will, depending on which version you use (Rev. 4:11).
With the remaining $2,499,900, they could help organizations like ours share the truth of God’s Word and help save souls from eternal punishment and damnation.
