It never ceases to amaze me how so many scientists can conduct a very good study into something, but when they report their findings, they go beyond their facts and extrapolate their beliefs, often times causing the facts to be altered.

For instance, take the report of a study by a team of Canadian and Chinese scientists.  They studied the fossilized remains of a pair of Sinocalliopteryx dinosaurs belonging to the Compsognathidae family of dinosaurs.  More specifically, they were studying the fossilized contents of the dinosaurs’ stomachs to learn what they had been eating.

Compsognathidae dinosaurs are a family of fairly small dinosaurs that ran on two legs.  They were made famous in movie Jurassic Park.  If you recall the scene with the young girl on the beach that encounters first one and then a group of chicken sized dinosaurs. The Sinocalliopteryx are among the largest members of this family, measuring just over six feet from nose to tip of tail.

When they analyzed the remains of the first dinosaur, they found that it had recently eaten a Sinornithosaurus, a small dinosaur measuring about three feet long.  In the second dinosaur, they found the remains of two Confuciusorni, which are birds about the size of a crow.

The discoveries are actually very significant as it provides direct information on what these dinosaurs were eating shortly before their deaths.  So far, good facts, good science.

After such a great start, they take a nose dive into the extrapolation based upon preconceived beliefs in millions of years and that some dinosaurs had feather and could fly.  To begin with, they automatically assumed that Sinornithosaurus was a feathered flying dinosaur.  There is still some question as to whether or not the impressions in Sinornithosaurus fossils are feathers or remnants of skin or even collagen fibers that run just below the skin.

In 1998, I attended the Dinofest 98 Scientific Symposium in Philadelphia.  One of the hot topics at the symposium was feathered dinosaurs as this was not long after the announcement of Sinosauropteryx, which was reported to be a feathered dinosaur.  One pair of paleontologists presented a paper on an experiment they ran where they skinned a number of large monitor type lizards.  In many of the instances, when the skin was violently or rapidly stripped from the back of the large lizards, it left a significant fray of collagen fibers along the spine that closely resembled the presumed feathers of Sinosauropteryx.  Even though these two scientists, who by the way were evolutionists, presented good hard science to cause one to question the feathered dinosaur report, other scientists in the crowd began to yell obscenities at them and told them to get off the stage.  I was shocked at the rude behavior that erupted when someone questioned what they all wanted to believe.

On a second note, there is nothing in Scripture that precludes dinosaurs having feathers.  There is nothing in creationist theory forbidding dinosaurs from having feathers—it would not make them any more a transitional form than the egg-laying mammals, the platypus and echidna.  However, you must realize that there is a significant difference between scales on reptiles and feathers on birds on virtually every aspect of their development and growth.

Secondly, they labeled the Confuciusorni as primitive birds.  This assumption is made because they believe that any bird that lived during the Cretaceous and Jurassic eras had to be primitive.  They just can’t accept the fact that the birds that lived at the same time as the dinosaurs were fully modern like today’s birds.  Nope!  Since they lived that long ago, they had to be primitive.

What they also fail to grasp is that the first birds came before the dinosaurs – one day before.  They weren’t primitive and they didn’t evolve from dinosaurs.

Truth About Dinosaurs

In this stunning program, watch science and the Bible unite as you learn the amazing truth about these creatures. Using several museum-quality dinosaur fossils and specimens, Dr. G. Thomas Sharp will explain the Biblical view of dinosaur origins, and their disappearance, as he walks you through the five most frequently asked questions about these incredible animals.

Did Dinosaurs really exist? if so, when Did they exist? Where are they now? Why is the word Dinosaurs not in the Bible? Were Dinosaurs on Noahs ark?

Dr. Sharp will also reveal their fascinating history and the role they play in the development of a Biblical worldview.

Learn the Truth About Dinosaurs.
