Comments on “What Are They Afraid Of?”

E-mail from: David B.
Subject: Truth

What are scientists afraid of? Wrong question…what are Christians afraid of?….”TRUTH sets us free from evil.”

Science is a Gift of God because we are Created in His Image and when practiced without bias it ALWAYS leads to TRUTH. I taught Biology 35 years and the perception that Science is incompatible with the Holy Bible….(The Inerrant Word of God and FINAL Authority on planet Earth)…. is one of the most insidious illusions ever perpetrated by the great liar Satan. ( Ref: Ephesians 6:12)

Satan has found our weakness…..FEAR OF SCIENCE…..Christians have spent more money on trying to refute Darwinian NATURAL Selection than SPREADING THE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST! We hear a lot about ”Born Again Christians.” OH I believe Jesus is 100% correct when He said ”We must be Born Again.” However….He also told us that once we accept the Vicarious Death of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary as payment for our transgressions against God…WE ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SPREADING THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST…..NOT TRYING TO DISPROVE WHAT SCIENCE DISCOVERS ABOUT NATURE. Contrary to popular belief…Science has verified more Scripture as TRUTH than any atheist would be willing to admit! In fact….I have discovered that when the Holy Scriptures are interpreted within the parameters of Science…THERE ARE NO ERRORS OR CONTRADICTIONS that atheists constantly bring up!

What saddens me the most is all the souls that could have been brought to the Lord Jesus if the money spent on trying to disprove the revelations of Science was spent on preaching Jesus Christ and Him Crucified!

TIME IS SHORT AND WE MUST START PREACHING THE SAVING POWER OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST NOW…(John 6:53)… and stop squandering God’s money on practicing ”pseudo-science.”

May this Blessed season of Christmas enlighten your hearts to recognize the presence of our Lord in NATURE and share the Greatest Gift of Eternity…..our Savior Jesus Christ!

MY RESPONSE

David – If you have the impression that we are spending all of our time trying to refute evolution instead of preaching the Gospel, then I suggest you read more of our articles.  Try looking at the conclusions to my articles and read the series on Apologetics = Defending the Faith.  We also post a number of theological articles, not just science.

Secondly, I suggest you take a lesson from 1 Corinthians 1:20-25 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

We no longer have a generation of people who know the Bible.  They are like the Greeks and so often when we preach Christ crucified, it is a stumbling block to them.  They need a foundation upon which to understand the need for a crucified Christ, hence the emphasis in Genesis which lays the foundation upon which the Cross stands.

I have seen creation evangelism work on many occasions in my own experience and with others.  A dear brother in Christ is a native from the Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire) by the name of Peter.  Peter was born and raised in the heart of the jungle near the small village of Oicha.  Peter is one of the most powerful preachers I have ever listened to.  He has often told me that the people of his region have never had any prior knowledge of the Bible or of Jesus.  When he tired to preach Jesus crucified, it meant absolutely nothing to them.  The most effective way he has found to reach his people is to start with Genesis and teach them about the perfect Creation, the Fall of Adam and the promise of the Messiah.  Only then does his people understand that they are sinners and in need of a Savior.

I pray this helps to explain why we spend so much time and effort in dealing with Genesis and the foundations instead of just preaching the Cross.  Besides, evolutionists know that if they can undermine the first 11 chapters of Genesis, then the rest of the Bible collapses.  We are fighting to preserve that foundation.

John C2010/12/07 at 11:50 am

In today’s article entitled, “What Are They Afraid Of”, I believe the answer is simple. According to Romans 1, it is the nature of carnal man to deny God. Romans 1:19-22,28a ” … 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, … 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;…”. So, here, I believe, we have the answer as to the “Why/What” they are afraid. Bottom line, if you acknowledge God, then you also know you will be held accountable.

MY RESPONSE

John – The section in Romans 1 that you quote actually refers to God’s judgment on a people that have turned to a sinful lifestyle (which includes homosexuality) and approves of that sinful lifestyle.

The verse which would best support the idea you are trying to make is Genesis 6:5 – The LORD saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

John F. T.2010/12/07 at 12:23 pm

I suspect I know what it is that “they” are so afraid of: that there is One out there Who Is beyond their ability to browbeat and bully into submission, and Who Is more powerful than they are. Their unholy delusions of godhood have gone to such a degree that, upon their respective demises, their little worlds will shatter into so many tiny pieces, even Humpty Dumpty would be hard pressed to help them put those world all back together again.

I’m just saying this as speculation, mind you…but the circumstantial evidence does add up.

MY RESPONSE

If you believe in the One who you refer to and if that One is the God of the Bible, then there should be no speculation as He has given us His Word and record of history.

paulyD2010/12/07 at 12:36 pm

Outstanding article! I’m surprised you didn’t mention the evolutionary atheist that once admitted he clung to his worldview because of the sexual exploits he didn’t want to give up (I can’t remember his name now, but Dr. DJ Kennedy mentioned him several times when he would preach/teach about atheism). Surely an honest atheist for once.

MY RESPONSE

paulyD – I’m not sure who Dr. Kennedy was referring to but I have spoken to several former atheistic evolutionists who are now young earth creationist Christians.  One of them was a college professor of biology.  He told me that for years he questioned evolution because it didn’t fit with what he saw in biology; however he refused to abandon it for many years because he didn’t want to be accountable to a supreme being.  Yet, the more he studied the natural world, he finally came to realize that the only thing that made sense was the biblical account of Creation and the Flood.  After accepting Christ as his Lord and Savior, he realized that what he had feared all these years (having to be accountable to a supreme being), was foolishness and that he had been a slave to sin but now was free from sin through his faith in Christ.

The other atheistic evolutionist was an electrical engineer who had become an alcoholic because it was the only way he knew how to handle the stress he was under.  A friend of his tried to share Christ with him but he continually rejected it.  It wasn’t until after he lost his job and family because of his drinking did he finally listened to his friend.  Out of desperation, he started to read his Bible and eventually it all started to make sense and finally gave his life to Christ.  He told me that Christ replaced his alcohol and he has never regretted it.

Common Man2010/12/07 at 12:49 pm

Great article! I agree with both John C and John FT but would like to add that Satan is roaming around devouring (with deception) anyone that he can. For we know that he does not need to get people to worship him, but only needs to prevent as many people as possible from coming to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior. This is one of the many lies that he uses to hurt God by keeping his children from knowing Him. For this reason, we should never give up speaking God’s truth, in love so that as many as possible can be saved. Remember 1Peter 3:15.

MY RESPONSE

Common Man – Thank you for the kind words and please be assured that the number one goal of this website is to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ and give fellow Christians material and answers to use when they witness.

Robert S2010/12/07 at 3:48 pm

Fear is not an issue here. No theory involving some sort of supernatural interaction can convey any information (this is easily provable), so no such theory is of any interest to anyone doing science. We know for a fact that evolution occurs (there are at least six different methods of showing this); there was no worldwide flood anytime in human history [1]; and that the earth is 4,568,200,000 years old [2] — and these facts simply cannot be reconciled with the biblical tales — which are thus shown to be false.

1. Lulergue et al, Orbital and millenial-scale features of atmospheric CH4 over the past 800,000 years. Nature, vol. 453, 15 May 2008, p. 383.

2. Bouvier et al, The age of the Solar System redefined by the oldest Pb-Pb age of a meteoric inclusion. Nature Geoscience, vol. 3, Sept. 2010, p. 637. The age shown here is correct to within 0.01%.

MY RESPONSE

Robert S – You keep stating that evolution is a fact and you give all of these references but you continue to fail to see the underlying issue in that ALL of the evidences you offer are based on assumptions that CANNOT be proven.  You cannot prove that the earth is billions of years old because all of your dating methods are based on assumptions.  The first assumption is that there were billions of years.  If you are so into science and the dating methods to prove the age of the earth, then I strongly suggest that you read the works from the RATE group (RATE group reveals exciting breakthroughs!; Radioisotopes & the Age of the Earth Vol 1; Radioisotopes & the Age of the Earth Vol 2).  These are highly qualified scientists, several of which worked in government labs (but oh, you don’t believe that they could do real science and believe in the Bible, so I guess you don’t accept that any of their work credible).

As I told you before, I admit that I cannot prove a young earth creation nor can you prove an old earth evolution.  They are both based on our presuppositional beliefs which govern how we interpret the facts of science.  Science in and of itself is neutral.  Our interpretations of it are not neutral and biased due our foundational beliefs.

AT LEAST WE ARE HONEST ENOUGH TO ADMIT IT.  WHEN ARE YOU GIONG TO BE HONEST AND ADMIT IT?

Or are you going to continue to hide your head in the sand like an ostrich and refuse to see the truth of where this entire argument lies, which is not science, but presuppositions.

And for your comment about nothing supernatural would lead anyone in to doing real science is an outright lie and you should know it!  Most all of the scientists that are considered to be the fathers of their various fields made their great discoveries because of their belief in God and the biblical account of creation.  Men like Newton, Kepler and others.  Dr John Baumgardner created a huge computer modeling system of the Earth while working at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  The program called TERRA is world recognized and Dr Baumgardner was able to create it based upon his modeling of the tectonics involved at the time of the Flood.  Dr Damadian, invented the MRI and he openly admits that he sees that the laws of physics and medicine only make sense in the light of a Creator God.

For you to reject any and all science done in the name of Christianity and the Bible is the worst form of bigotry and prejudicial hatred that I have ever seen!

If you can’t be honest on our site, then I suggest you find one that will allow you to continue in your lies, hatred and prejudice!

Mark2010/12/07 at 3:57 pm

Just beautiful, Thanks so much Mr. Jolly.

MY RESPONSE

Mark – Thanks.  Kind words are greatly appreciated.  While I am a sinful person and may not always provide the top information, I continue to strive to do the best I can.

Judy2010/12/07 at 4:03 pm

Just a side note. Many scientists have disagreed on everything from evolution to anything Biblical. Frankly since there isn’t anyone around today that was there at the beginning no one can say there was no flood. No one can say exactly how old or young the earth is. It appears for everything that is supposedly ‘proved’ at a later point it again is ‘disproved’. I would trust the ‘Biblical’ tales first as they were written by the people there at the time. Makes more sense to believe someone who was there than someone who wasn’t.

MY RESPONSE

Judy – Actually, there was someone around at the beginning and that was the God who created it all and He gave us His account of what He did.  There were also 8 people that were eyewitnesses that survived the Flood and told us about it.  And since all of Scripture is divinely inspired, God made sure that we would have an account of this catastrophic event.

As to whom to trust, it all comes down to whether you want to put your trust in man who wasn’t there and is always changing his facts and is very fallible or put your trust in an omniscient and omnipresent God who is incapable of lying or making mistakes?

Hoite2010/12/07 at 7:16 pm

It flies against all common sense, even if you believe in a God created universe, to base one’s arguments about the physical world on a personal belief in an inspired collection of words never meant to be used as precise arbiters in the investigation of natural phenomena. Words which were first verbally passed down through the years by fallible men (ever play the “telephone” game?), written down by more fallible men, copied and edited through the ages by more fallible men, selected from hundreds of other similar writings and authenticated by a group of more fallible men. These same words are now being interpreted in more denominationally conflicting ways than one can count by even more fallible men and women as they attempt to use those same theologically debated words not only to form and shape their spiritual life but also to determine the veracity of microscopic details that make up modern day scientific investigation. The article’s legitimate and well stated attack on scientific hypocrisy implodes with its first mention of the faith-distorted premise of a young earth or young universe. If you have the conviction of the truth of the core of your faith, then stick to the facts of the dispute with the evolutionists’ misuse of the scientific method and let the conclusions of that objective investigation for physical truth lead where it may, which if the author is right will be to the hand of God.

MY RESPONSE

Hoite – Oh ye of little faith.  Do you believe that an all knowing and all powerful God is incapable of protecting His Word?  How many times in history has the Bible been the target of destruction, and yet it continues to survive in a way that no other text ever has.  The following verses also come to mind: Matthew 5:18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.  2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

I would direct you to read the following articles: Who Wrote Genesis? Are the Toledoth Colophons? and How Did We Get The Bible?

I am pretty sure that was Huxley.

Juntos2010/12/08 at 2:32 am

Science and religion are strongest when they stand together. Check out Genesis and the Big Bang by Gerald Schroeder for an eye opening look at the “harmony between modern science and The Bible”.

MY RESPONSE

Juntos – I am familiar with Gerald Schroeder and his teachings.  However, I will defer to the following posts and allow them to show you why we would not endorse him: Gerald Schroeder and his new variation on the “day-age” theory: Part 1; Gerald Schroeder and a new variation on the “day-age” theory: Part 2; Response to a Gerald Schroeder fan.

Kim W. – 2010/12/08 at 12:38 pm | In reply to Hoite.

I look forward to checking out Schroeder’s book. I also agree with Hoite in that anyone who investigates the natural world in complete honesty and with absolutely NO preconceptions, will not be able to deny involvement of an infinitely intelligent master designer and creator. True seekers of the truth–will find truth.

MY RESPONSE

Kim W – I have to disagree in that it is impossible for anyone to investigate the natural world with “absolutely NO preconceptions”.  We all have foundational beliefs and we see and interpret everything in the world around us based upon those presuppositional beliefs.

Some years back I had cataract surgery to replace one of the clouding lenses in my eyes.  After the surgery, I noticed that I saw colors differently.  Blues were bluer and whites were whiter.  I still had the natural yellowed lens in my other eye and by closing one eye and then the other, I could see the differences between them and how they affected my vision.  My old lens affected they way I saw everything and colored my interpretation of the world around me.  Our presuppositional beliefs are like the lenses in our eyes, in that whatever affects the lens also affects how we see everything around us.

As for Gerald Schroeder’s work, I strongly suggest you check out the articles that I suggested to Juntos.

Keith D – 2010/12/08 at 1:37 pm

Bravo to R.L.David Jolly on such a good article! This should answer the question well for anyone.

MY RESPONSE

Keith D – Thank you for the kind words, but unfortunately this will not suffice to answer the question for everyone because many choose not to believe that it is man’s fault and would rather blame it on God.

Bill K – 2010/12/08 at 3:10 pm | In reply to Keith D

Well, it is a partial answer.

It ignores the real truth in that the Father, JHVH, created a world where Adam (and later Eve) would never have to work to eat or satisfy their needs.

Adam was created to be the companion of JHVH. He was designed so that he (Adam) could choose for himself AFTER he was given the rules to live by.

Since the closing of the Gates of Eden, the world has had the opportunity to choose to obey the rules or PAY THE PRICE!

We have been given the written Rules and yet we have chosen to listen to MEN who lie to us. We choose to NOT read and learn the Rules for ourselves so we must continue to pay the price.

Few have not heard that Satan/Lucifer was given dominion (controlling rule) over everything on the earth. Since Satan is the source for all lies and pain, why would we expect anything different from him?

The REAL ANSWER is that when WE individually choose to Read the Holy Bible and work to achieve Christ, we will then have dominion over the Ruler of the earth – Satan!

THEN the Love of the Father will by OURS and we will no longer suffer the pains of the carnal world!

Saint John has proven the concept by being isolated on the isle of Patmos when he COULD NOT be killed! The king’s only recourse was to have him removed from the people and isolated. John died when he was ready to die, not from hunger or thirst.

We have become so inured to lies and liars that we fail to recognize the Truth in the Rules of JHVH. When we disobey the Rules we will be subject to the rules of Satan. We willfully have chosen to NOT have the protection of the angels by our disobedience.

Seek and ye SHALL find, knock and it WILL be opened, ask and ye SHALL receive. These aren’t “maybe’s” but are “ABSOLUTES”! BUT, they are available ONLY when we use the authority of the Savior to address the Father.

It’s all in the Book!

MY RESPONSE

Bill K – Man was never supposed to sit idly in the Garden and do no work.  Genesis 2:15 states: And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.  Dressing and keeping the Garden involves work, as did the Dominion Mandate.  Yes is it was a perfect world, but that did not mean no work.  After all, didn’t God pattern the week after his act of Creation in which He labored for 6 days and rested on the 7th?

As for the rest of your comment, all men are under judgment until the time they stand before God in heaven to give an accounting of their sins.  At that time, our faith in Jesus Christ will be the only thing that saves us from eternal judgment.

Strawman – 2010/12/09 at 2:14 pm

Mr. Keen writes that Satan/Lucifer was given dominion over everything in the world. Where does he get this. In Job, Satan must receive authority from God before he can do anything to Job. If you have dominion(controlling rule) you do not need to have permission to do anything to those who reside in your dominion.

Furthermore, nowhere in Genesis 1 does it say that Adam and Eve never have to work. In fact, God tells man that he is to keep and dress the garden. Before sinning dressing the garden was a joy and blessing. It is only after Adam sins that tending a garden, metaphorically any job, became work.

God is all-powerful. All power, all dominion belongs to Him and He doles it out and takes it back as He sees fit. Satan has no power except what God gives him. Trust in God and refuse the devil an inch.

My God, called by some Jehovah, by some others Yahweh is known by many names and rules in my world. If He doesn’t rule in yours, then you have answered who does.

MY RESPONSE

Strawman – you are correct in pointing out to Mr. Keen about man was commanded to work in the Garden even in the perfect world.

Satan did have some dominion over the earth after he was cast out of heaven.  In John 12:30-32, he quotes Jesus referring to Satan as the prince of this world: Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

As you point out, Satan did have to ask God for permission to test Job’s faith, but you also had to realize that God had a protective hand on Job to begin with, hence Satan needing His permission.

Additionally, princes do not have the same absolute rule as kings do.  Their power is limited.  Since the time of Christ, we all have power over the prince of this world through our faith in Christ.  Our faith binds him.  However, he does continue to tempt us in his efforts to undermine that faith which gives us control over him.  Let your faith down, and it gives him a doorway into your heart.

I AM A SPRIRTUAL;67 YEAR OLD MAN .WHEN ARE YOU BIBLE LOVERS GOING TO STOP THE FAIRY TALES ABOUT ADAM & EVE,JONA IN A WHALE,RED SEA STORY. .SOME ARK WITH EVERY CREATURE IN THE WORLD!!!! COME ON GET REAL USE YOUR BRAIN I SUPPOSE YOUR BLINDNESS WOULD HAVE LED YOU TO ONE OF HITLERS CONCENTRATION. GET REAL!!!!!!!!

MY RESPONSE

Bill V – Reading your comment reminded me of Acts 28:26-27 which states: “‘Go to this people, and say, You will indeed hear but never understand, and you will indeed see but never perceive.  For this people’s heart has grown dull, and with their ears they can barely hear, and their eyes they have closed; lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’

I know that as long as your heart is hardened that there is nothing I can say that will make a difference.  However, it is never too late for the Holy Spirit to work a regeneration of your heart and allow your eyes and ears to be opened.

When you say that you are 67 years old, it reminded me of a letter I received some years back while working at another ministry.  It was a 3 page hand written letter by a man that identified himself as Ed.  Ed said he was 92 years old and had been a staunch atheist and evolutionists his entire life.  That summer, his two great great grandchildren ages 8 and 10 came to visit him.  When they started to talk to him about God and Bible he got angry and asked them his best question to show them that the Bible didn’t have all the answers   He asked them if the Bible was true then where did Cain get his wife?  He said in the letter that no Christian had ever been able to give him an answer to that quesiton.  However, the 8 year old climbed on his lap and read him a booklet titled Where Did Cain Get His Wife?  This made him even more upset so he fired back with his next question which was how does the Bible explain dinosaurs.  At this, the 10 year old sat down and read him another booklet titled Dinosaurs and the Bible.  He ended the conversation but could not forget that these two kids were the first Christians to ever give a sufficient answer to his two toughest questions.  He continued to think about what they had said and two weeks later he got down on his knees at age 92 and asked Christ into his life.  In his letter, he said that when he did that, it was like the scales fell off his eyes and the plugs fell out of his ears and for the first time he saw the truths of the world around him.

If you have ever read Christ’s parable about the laborers, (Matthew 20:1-16), Ed was the living example of the worker that was hired at the eleventh hour and was still paid the same wages as all the others that were hired earlier.  In other words, it s not too late for you receive the same free gift from God (Ephesians 2:8-10) as those who have believed their entire lives.

I and others reading this will pray for you and your salvation.
