British theologian John Stott (90 years old) peacefully passed on at his home in London. He was surrounded by friends who were reading the Scriptures with Handel’s Messiah playing in the background.
Stott was rector of All Souls Church in London from 1950-1975. He was a prolific Christian author with more than fifty books to his credit. Through his writings and teachings, he had an impact in the lives of Christians around the globe.
Stott’s book Basic Christianity has sold millions of copies worldwide. It has been used as a textbook, Bible study book and a tool of personal growth for new and old Christians alike.
About Basic Christianity, Stott wrote:
We must commit ourselves, heart and mind, soul and will, personally and unreservedly, to Jesus Christ. We must humble ourselves before him. We must trust him as our Savior and submit to him as our Lord; and then go on to take our place as loyal members of the church and responsible citizens in the community. This is basic Christianity, the theme of this book.
