Genesis 7:11-12 reads:
In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were opened. And rain fell upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
Many of today’s main stream creationists believe that the description in these two verses speak of the breaking up of the continental plates which released volcanic eruptions the likes of which the earth has never seen. The splitting apart of the continent coupled with the volcanic activity also released huge volumes of water and steam into the air. Some creationists propose that the water was so superheated from being exposed to the earth’s mantle that the steam jets rose nearly 50 miles into the atmosphere.
The amount of volcanic activity during this time released millions of tons of ash and aerosols into the atmosphere. Aerosols are extremely small particles of material released into the atmosphere. The global rains would have washed huge amounts of that ash out of the sky. The ash particles then settled down to the bottom of the oceans, covering and killing millions of aquatic life that lived on or near the ocean bottom.
Researchers from the New University of Washington have been studying the geological layers and fossils that preceded what they believed to be the final demise of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. They discovered deposits of volcanic ash that covered marine bottom dwelling organism such as clams and snails just prior to the famous K/T boundary.
According to one of the researchers involved, Thomas Tobin who is an Earth and Space Sciences doctoral student:
“The eruptions started 300,000 to 200,000 years before the impact, and they may have lasted 100,000 years.”
“The aerosols are active on a year to 10-year time scale, while the carbon dioxide has effects on a scale of hundreds to tens of thousands of years.”
Their description of what they found actually matches some of the creationist understandings of what took place during the Genesis Flood. I wonder what their conclusions would have been had they believed in biblical creation instead of millions of years of evolution? Same science, different conclusion based upon presuppositional beliefs.
Dinosaur Die out Might Have Been Second of Two Closely Timed Extinctions
Dinosaurs Were Not The First To Die Out 65 Million Years Ago
In this stunning program, watch science and the Bible unite as you learn the amazing truth about these creatures. Using several museum-quality dinosaur fossils and specimens, Dr. G. Thomas Sharp will explain the Biblical view of dinosaur origins, and their disappearance, as he walks you through the five most frequently asked questions about these incredible animals.
Did Dinosaurs really exist? if so, when Did they exist? Where are they now? Why is the word Dinosaurs not in the Bible? Were Dinosaurs on Noahs ark?
Dr. Sharp will also reveal their fascinating history and the role they play in the development of a Biblical worldview.
