How many of you are fascinated by dinosaurs?

Dinosaurs have been the subjects of hundreds of books and movies.  From the over-sized Velociraptors in Jurassic Park to the Japanese terror of Godzilla they have terrorized kids and adults for years.  There are dinosaur models, toys, games, costumes, theme parks and museums.  I don’t think there has ever been a group of animals as popular with kids and adults as dinosaurs.

They are big and strong and we think of them as being virtually indestructible.  But did you know that dinosaurs suffered from a number of diseases?  As scientists have studied the fossilized bones of hundreds of dinosaurs, they have discovered that dinosaurs had cancer, arthritis and gout.  This photo shows a brain tumor that was found in one dinosaur skull.  Many dinosaurs had evidence of broken bones and tooth marks from other dinosaurs.

Dinosaurs have been used by evolutionists to teach kids about millions of years and evolution.  Almost every kid around has heard that dinosaurs lived for a couple hundred million years and then died out about 65 millions years ago, millions of years before man evolved.   You hear it on television, in the movies, in textbooks, from teacher and college professors and on the internet.

Some Christians try to say that God used evolution and millions of years when He created everything.  They say that the days of creation in Genesis don’t mean 24 hour days like we know of today, but that they refer to millions of years instead.  After all, these well meaning Christians say, as long as you believe in God and that He did create, the rest really doesn’t matter, does it?

Like we have been learning in previous Articles 4 Kids, we will be like the Bereans and search the Scripture to see what is true and what isn’t it.

First of all we know that God created all of the dinosaurs and other land animals on Day 6 of Creation.  Genesis 1:24-25 says, Moreover God said, Let the earth bring forth the living thing according to his kind, cattle, and that which creepeth, and the beast of the earth according to his kind, and it was so.  And God made the beast of the earth according to his kind, and the cattle according to his kind, and every creeping thing of the earth according to his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Secondly, we know that God made man in His image also on Day 6, the same day He made the dinosaurs.  Genesis 1:26-27 says, Furthermore God said, Let us make man in our image according to our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heaven, and over the beasts, and over all the earth, and over everything that creepeth and moveth on the earth.  Thus God created the man in his image: in the image of God created he him: he created them male and female.

After God made all the land animals and man, including dinosaurs on the sixth day, He said that everything He had created was “very good”.  In Genesis 1:31 it says, And God saw all that he had made, and lo, it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

What does it mean when God said that everything was “very good”?

It meant God created a perfect world.  There was no disease, no suffering and no death.  Can you imagine a world with no sickness, no suffering and no death?

Have you ever been sick to your stomach and achy all over?  Or do you know of anyone in your family or a friend’s family that had cancer or heart disease and died?

All of these are the result of Adam’s sin when he knowingly ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  First we see that God warned Adam not to eat of the tree in Genesis 2:16-17, And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Thou shalt eat freely of every tree of the garden, But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof, thou shalt die the death.

Then in Genesis 3:6-7a we read when Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, So the woman (seeing that the tree was good for meat, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired, to get knowledge) took of the fruit thereof, and did beat, and gave also to her husband with her, and he did eat. Then the eyes of them both were opened.

As a result of Adam’s sin, God cursed all of Creation.  When we read Genesis 3:17-19, we learn that God told Adam that he would return to the dust of the earth.  This meant that he would die and his body would decay to nothing but dirt.  Genesis 3:17-19, Also to Adam he said, Because thou hast obeyed the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, (whereof I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it) cursed is the earth for thy sake: in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life. Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee, and thou shalt eat the herb of the field.  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth: for out of it wast thou taken, because thou art dust, and to dust shalt thou return.

Now that we have searched the Scriptures like the Bereans, what have we learned and what does it mean when evolutionists and Christians say that dinosaurs died out millions of years before man walked on the earth?

We learned that dinosaurs and man were made on the same day and at the end of that day, God said everything was very good.  That meant that there was no disease, no suffering and no death until AFTER God made man and dinosaurs, not before.

Therefore, dinosaurs could not have had cancer, arthritis and gout before Adam sinned.  It also means that dinosaurs could not have died out millions of years before man walked the earth, because death was the result man’s sin.

Why is this important?

If there were millions of years of cancer and death before Adam and Eve, then how could death be the penalty for Adam’s sin?  If there was death in the world when God said it was very good, then death also had to be very good.  If death was very good, then why didn’t Adam run straight over to the tree and eat right away?  If death was very good, how could it be a penalty for sin?

Jesus had to die on the Cross to pay the penalty for our sins.  If there was death when God said everything was very good and existed before Adam sinned, then Jesus Christ’s death on the Cross was all for nothing, making Jesus a liar.  If Jesus was a liar, then He definitely wasn’t the Son of God and our Christian faith is built on a lie.

So when well meaning Christians just say that how God created or the millions of years don’t matter, they are also saying that Jesus Christ’s death on the Cross doesn’t matter either.  What you believe about the Creation of the world is very important to your belief in Jesus and His death for our sins.  I would encourage you to learn this lesson very well so you can defend your faith and belief in the Bible and in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
