Natural selection is NOT evolution.  In fact, real natural selection works completely opposite of evolution and really is the enemy of evolutionist and the tool for creationists.  To read more on why natural selection is the enemy of evolution, I refer you to Natural Selection Slays Evolution!

I preface this article with the above on natural selection because I view a report on coevolution as nothing more than natural selection and not evolution.

Researchers from the University of Georgia have been studying the relationship between invasive plant species and native species.  In particular, they were referring to kudzu, privet and garlic mustard.  These plants can overrun an area and drive out native species such as clearweed plants.

However, they observed that some of the native clearweed appeared to resist being driven out by the invasive species.  In response to the resistant clearweed, some of the invasive species appeared to be using different methods in their battle against the native plants.

Invasive Species

Assistant professor of plant biology Richard Lankau explained:

The implications of this study are encouraging because they show that the native plants aren’t taking this invasion lying down.  It suggests that if you were to take a longer view—a timescale of centuries—that exotic species could become integrated into their communities in a way that is less problematic for the natives.

It looks like the native plants have evolved in response to the traits of the invader.

It’s not all good for those populations that are evolving tolerance.  Because they are less successful in the absence of garlic mustard, their resistance to the invasive species comes at a cost.

When people talk about evolution, it’s usually in the past tense.  But one of the important messages from this study is that it’s an ongoing process that can happen fast. And this study suggests that we might be able to jumpstart that process through evolutionarily informed management.

Lankau interprets the changes he sees in the plants as a process of evolution.  However, I contend that it is nothing more than natural selection and quite possibly a decrease in genetic variety.  Evolution requires an increase in genetic information, yet natural selection is generally a decrease in information or a rearrangement of information.

If some but not all of the native clearweed was able to resist the invasive plants, that means that they carried a genetic trait that allowed them to survive.  Those that could not resist, most likely did not carry the same genetic trait.  The end result is all of the remaining clearweed carry that trait and lost the variation contained in those that died.  They did not develop new information, rather preexisting information was selected out and those that didn’t have it died.

This is how natural selection works.  It either keeps a population’s genetic variety stable or in time it will drive a species to extinction.  Neither of these results is a friend to evolution which demands an ever increasing amount of new genetic information.

Sadly, evolutionists believe that any change is proof of evolution and they continue to brainwash the public to think likewise.  I’ve even heard some evolutionists say that change in allele frequency of any kind is evolution.  That means that every plant, animal and human that reproduces sexually is proof of evolution because the offspring will carry traits from both parents, thus a change in allele frequency.  For example, my wife has green eyes and I have brown eyes.  One of our daughters has blue eyes and the other has eyes that are almost grey.  This is not evolution.

So every time you see or read reports like this of proof of evolution, realize that they are misusing the term to promote their blind faith in a godless religion of death and destruction.  Look at the study or report and think of it as natural selection carrying out the results of a world suffering from 6,000 years of the sin and corruption due to one man’s sin.

Mysterious Islands

At the far end of the world, there exists a strange and unusual chain of islands, resting above vast tectonic plates.

This is the world of the Galapagos Archipelago, home to salt-spitting marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, and giant tortoises that can live to be more than 150 years of age. It is also the birthplace of Darwinism, for here in 1835, a young Charles Darwin began to formulate a theory which would turn the world upside down. More than a century and a half later, these mysterious islands remain at the center of a controversy that has shaped the way modern men perceive science, religion, and life itself. The unique ingredients found on the Galapagos have led many of Darwin’s followers to describe it as Darwin’s Eden a laboratory of evolution.

Now, for the 200th anniversary of Darwin’s birth and the 150th of his seminal work, On the Origin of Species, Doug Phillips leads a team of Christian scientists and investigators to this ground zero in the war of the worldviews. Seen through the eyes of 16-year-old Joshua Phillips, who joins his father and noted researchers like Dr.John Morris of the Institute for Creation Research, The Mysterious Islands is the story of one boys search for answers to the great controversy of the modern world. It is a refreshing father-and-son adventure that combines cinematically breathtaking footage with high adventure. The quest: to determine whether the Galapagos Islands are a laboratory of evolution, or a testimony to creation.
