If you have ever had the opportunity to travel across northern Utah on Interstate 80, you may have noticed just how flat and barren the landscape looked. Whenever you passed the occasional hill or mountain, did you happen to notice a light colored line that ran across them, kind of like the lines left the bathtub after you let the water out?
These are the remnant shorelines from a huge inland body of water known as Lake Bonneville. This lake covered most of northern Utah and parts of Idaho and Nevada. The reason you see the mark from shoreline so high up on the hills and mountains because Lake Bonneville was up to 1,000 feet deep.
Evolutionists believe Lake Bonneville formed over 30,000 years ago as a result of the one of many ice ages. They also believe that around 14,500 years ago that much of the lake drained out in what they call the Bonneville Flood which took place at Red Rock Pass in Idaho. Over the years since, the lake continued to evaporate away until it left a dry desolate landscape in the Great Basin area of America.
But do the evolutionists have the only possible explanation for when and how Lake Bonneville formed, emptied and dried up?
What if I told you that there is another explanation that fits the evidence?
Noah’s Flood covered the entire earth with water about 4,360 years ago. The Flood created the perfect climate for a massive ice age. This ice age, started about a couple hundred years after the Flood and lasted about 500 years. When the ice sheets melted, they left a number of huge lakes and inland seas, one of which was Lake Bonneville.
Just a couple thousand years ago, Lake Bonneville overflowed its basin at the northern edge of the lake and drained into what we know as the Snake River in Idaho. This overflow was a catastrophic event that lowered the lake by at least 230 feet. Since the time of the breach, that part of northern Utah became very arid and what was left of the lake has now evaporated away, leaving a barren desert.
Both evolutionists and creationists have the same facts and same evidence. We can stand side-by-side and look at the miles of dry lake bed and see the same thing. We interpret that evidence based upon our religious beliefs. The evolutionists believe in billions of years of godless evolution. The creationists believe the Bible to be the true and infallible Word of God and base our interpretation upon that.
However, there is one huge difference between the evolutionists’ interpretation and the creationists’ interpretation and that is the creationist has an eyewitness testimony that tells us about the Flood and how long ago it took place. Evolutionists have no eyewitness testimony and rely purely on their faith in processes they can only speculate about.
Using easy-to-understand illustrations and terms, geologist Tas Walker shows how the Genesis account of a worldwide Flood gives the best explanation for the rock layers that we see today. If you aren’t convinced now, you will be after hearing this talk! (High School-Adult)
