Today’s feed deals with more of a comment than question. Even though the comment was made in jest, it holds more truth than many may realize.
From John R:
This could probably NEVER happen in the USA. As much as we love tolerance, diversity, free-speech etc. Our gov’t leaders and Teachers Unions love us and want informed, happy little children to “know” we came from apes and that there is no God who commands moral precepts like ” No Adultery” , ” No Stealing”, ” No Murder”, ” Honor your mother/father” etc.
John, I know that your comment left on Facebook was more of a tongue-in-cheek comment, but it is more of a reality already than you may realize. Even though Great Britain is more of a secular nation than the US, our public school system is far more secular than theirs.
In some ways, the US has been following about 20-40 years behind Great Britain. Among those ways is religion. Church attendance in Great Britain has been steadily declining, and now reports that less than 2% of the British people attend church on a regular basis. In many cities across their land, churches have closed their doors due to lack of attendance. Some church buildings remain empty while others have been turned into pubs, nightclubs and Muslim mosques.
The only places in Great Britain where church attendance is on the rise are those areas being taken over by Muslims. A sad statistic is that far fewer Christians attend regular church service than almost any other religion in the world. Muslims have one of the highest church attendance figures in the world. This is why some churches in Great Britain have been converted into mosques.
The trend of regular church attendance in the US has also been steadily dropping. While the rate of regular attendance is still significantly higher than in Great Britain, some trend forecasters place American church attendance to be only 40 years behind them. At the current rates of decline, in 40-50 years, America could see regular church attendance drop below the 5% mark.
As secular as Great Britain has become, their school system still allows for the teaching of biblical creation. Some noted creationists, such as Phillip Bell, have been invited to speak at some of the schools there. This is why people like Richard Dawkins are up in arms and wanting the laws changed to ban any and all teaching of creation and the Bible from their schools. And to be honest, it probably won’t be much longer until they succeed.
However, here in good ole Christian US of A, creation and the Bible were banned from the public schools over 40 years ago. The only place they are allowed to be mentioned or taught are classes on religion and philosophy.
It has gone so far to the liberal left in America that a science teacher cannot even expose some of the major flaws with evolution to their classes without the threat of losing their jobs. They don’t even have to mention anything about creation or intelligent design, just pose a doubt of evolution’s credibility and they may find themselves standing in the unemployment line.
I spoke to one high school science teacher a few years back that was following the policy of the school system and trying to teach his students to think critically and ask questions about things. He had his class examine the principles of the theory of evolution and write a paper on their conclusions. One student objected and filed a complaint with the school that the teacher was teaching students to question evolution, so he must be intending to teach creation or intelligent design. The school immediately removed him from the science class room and had him start teaching driver’s education and physical education classes.
A Christian lawyer took his case to the district school board and they upheld the school’s decision. He then took the case to court and the court upheld the school’s decision. He also turned to the teacher’s union, the National Education Association, believing that unions will help support and defend union member teachers. Not in this case. The local NEA representatives immediately sided with the school board against him. This teacher ended up moving to a different state, but had difficulty finding a job as a science teacher because of what the former school wrote in his employment records. Eventually, he managed to get a part time job teaching science in a small Christian school and had to find additional work outside the teaching profession to support his family.
I personally know of several men and women who have had college degrees denied them because of their creationist beliefs. One gentleman in particular was a straight A student in college and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in geology. He then attended a prominent university to pursue a PhD in geology. Again he was a straight A student and his dissertation research was impeccable. He had successfully defended his research and was awarded a PhD with honors. Several months later he spoke at a local church on biblical creation and how geology actually proved that the earth was young as the Bible indicates. Word of his young earth creationist talk got back to the university and they took formal action and tried to strip him of his PhD. After a lengthy and expensive court battle, he was allowed to retain his doctorate, but the financial and emotional cost of the battle took a great toll on him.
Worse yet is that these are not an isolated cases. This has been happening more and more at all levels of education. America’s schools, from kindergarten up to post-graduate level college can openly teach sexual perversion, homosexuality, political extremism, atheism, New Age mysticism, pornography and all sorts of immoral subjects, but heaven forbid a teacher or professor dare try to teach anything to do with the Bible, Jesus Christ or creation and their careers can be more ruined in a heartbeat.
This is why I wholeheartedly encourage all Christian parents to do whatever they can to not send their children to public schools. If at all possible, send them to a Christian school or try home schooling them. If they can’t do any of these and public school is the only option, then they must take an active role in their child’s education. Look at the textbooks the student is using. Talk to the teachers and learn about them and what they teach. Then, most importantly, spend time with your child on a regular basis and discuss the things they are learning, especially those that go against what the Bible teaches. Invest in some biblically based materials that have to do with science and philosophy and go over them with your child.
Sending your child to public school and college is the most effective way in America to destroy your child’s Christian faith. The last figure I saw said that 7 out of every 10 children from evangelical Christian homes walk away from the church and their Christian faith after graduating from high school. The rate is even higher for college graduates.
If your child’s Christian faith and their eternal salvation is important to you, and it should be, then you need to do whatever you can to safeguard them from the brainwashing they receive in the public school system. Two resources I would highly recommend to every parent are:
In the first presentation (Whoever Controls the School Controls the World), Dr. Voddie Baucham knows what most parents are too quick to dismiss: whoever is teaching our children is also discipling them. Voddie persuasively argues that Christian parents need to take the initiative in their children’s education and stop turning them over to the anti-God environment of the government school. Using Scripture, statistics, and sound reasoning, Voddie powerfully makes the case that whoever controls the schools does indeed control the world.
In the second presentation (Getting Your House In Order), Dr. Baucham turns his attention to the Christian home and explains what an orderly home should look like. Expounding on the Old Testament text of Deuteronomy 6, Voddie highlights six characteristics of a properly ordered home. Through personal testimony and biblical instruction, Voddie educates and motivates Christian parents to rise to the challenge of changing the world one household at a time.
